Easy Mindful Crochet
6-part course. Starting Wednesday 31st October 3:30-4:30pm Hilary Weaver
- Stepping Stones Recovery College
Course / Workshop Content
WHO IS THIS FOR? This course is for anyone who would like to learn a new and relaxing crafting hobby, with lots of opportunity to be creative, colourful and mindful. WHAT WILL I LEARN? Working on a simple piece of crochet is very relaxing and you can easily pick it up and carry on, even if you only have a spare 10 minutes. As well as being relaxing, crocheting is a great way to practice mindfulness - focusing on details such as the feel and colour of your yarn, the movements of your hands, the shape of each crochet stitch etc. This mindful crocheting helps to draw your thoughts away from worries and stresses giving your mind a little calming oasis. You will start by learning how to hold your hook and yarn and how to make a basic slip knot and chain length. From there you will progress onto more basic crochet stitches and techniques and you will also learn how to make the traditional granny square, which is the basic building block of so many crochet projects. You will also learn how to: - Join your squares together Change yarn colour Crochet circles and triangles Read a crochet pattern and chart And probably lots more general tips as we go along! As you learn these techniques through the course you will be able create small accessories for your home in lovely coloured yarn, and towards the end of the course hopefully we will have time to create some Christmas decorations. There will be lots of time for practicing what you have learnt, so that you are able to relax and enjoy your mindful crochet. HOW CAN I USE WHAT I LEARN? Crochet is such a versatile and popular craft; with lots of magazines, books and internet sites to help inspire you to carry on crocheting. From cheerful blankets and cushions, to cuddly animals and clothes – you will be spoilt for choice! Crochet is very portable so that wherever you are; at home or out and about; you can always calm your busy mind and fidgety fingers with your hook and yarn if you have a spare 10 minutes.
If you cannot attend a workshop, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer your place to someone else. Thank you.
