Course / Workshop Content

Who is this for? This two part course is ideal for anyone who has a caring role — whether formal or informal — in the life of someone facing any difficulties that affect their mental health and wellbeing. This includes parents, siblings, partners, extended family members, foster carers, and close friends who want to better understand how to support a loved one. What will I learn? The course is designed to support those who care for, live with, or support individuals experiencing mental health challenges. It provides a compassionate and practical approach to understanding mental health difficulties, developing effective support strategies, and maintaining your own wellbeing while caring for others. During the workshop we will explore the emotional and psychological needs of those we care for and we will equip ourselves with a set of tools to respond with empathy, confidence, and clarity. Part 1 - will look into understanding temperament, what can impact our mental health, signs and indicators of poor mental health, how to start a conversation about mental health and ways to empathise and validate the feelings of those impacted by poor mental health. Part 2 - will focus on supporting those struggling with anxiety and mood disorders and those in a mental health crisis. We will learn different strategies to foster psychological flexibility in those we support and lean into self-care practices to maintain our wellbeing while we care for other. How can I use what I learn? The skills and knowledge gained from this workshop can be applied in everyday interactions — from knowing what to say (and what not to say), to recognising early signs of distress, creating a calmer home environment, and helping someone feel seen, safe, and supported. You'll also walk away with strategies to manage your own stress, avoid burnout, and build healthier boundaries that benefit both you and the person you care for.
