Course / Workshop Content

A two-part course exploring how mental health and addiction are linked — and how hope, healing, and support are possible. Who is this for? This course is for anyone who wants to understand more about the relationship between mental health and addiction — whether you’re working in support services, walking your own recovery path, or caring for someone who is struggling. It’s open to anyone affected by or interested in knowing more about any kind of addiction, including alcohol, drugs, gambling, gaming, food, shopping, or digital dependence. Together, we’ll create a safe, respectful space to explore these challenges without judgment, with time for discussion, reflection, and shared learning. What will I learn? Session 1 – Understanding the Connection We’ll explore how mental health challenges and addiction often interact — and why it can feel like a cycle that’s hard to break. Together, we’ll look at: • The emotional, psychological, and biological links between mental health and addiction • How trauma, stress, and coping behaviours play a role • The impact of both substance and behavioural addictions • Myths and stigma that keep people silent or stuck • Real stories of recovery and what makes change possible Session 2 – Hope, Treatment, and Support This practical and inspiring session focuses on what helps — both in recovery and ongoing wellbeing. We’ll explore: • How different kinds of addiction and mental health issues can be treated together • The role of self-awareness, connection, and compassion in recovery • Where to find help, from local services to national support networks • Everyday strategies to strengthen resilience and emotional health How can I use what I learn? Apply your understanding to support recovery — for yourself or others — with more confidence, compassion, and awareness of where to find help and hope.
