Singing for Fun and Wellbeing is now at St Joseph’s Church Hall, opposite Princess Square, RG12 1HA Who is this for? This group is perfect for anyone looking to boost their mood, alleviate stress, and simply have a great time. Whether you have never sung a note or believe you are not a natural singer, this beginner's group is designed for all abilities. Research shows that group singing can significantly improve mental health, offering a sense of community and belonging, which is crucial for overall well-being. Here, you will find a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment where everyone is encouraged to express themselves through music. You do not need any singing experience as you will learn everything at the workshops - from vocal warm-ups, breathing techniques and gentle physical exercises through to learning how to use your voice properly. What will I learn? The benefits of singing are widely known for lifting mood and promoting good overall mental and physical wellbeing. Singing offers numerous scientifically backed benefits, including mood enhancement, endorphin release, improved respiratory health, and overall mental and physical well-being. In this workshop, you will be guided step by step, regardless of your prior experience. We always start with the basics: vocal warm-ups to prepare your voice, breathing techniques to improve lung function and control, and gentle physical exercises to ease tension. You will also learn how to use your voice effectively, ensuring that you sing safely and confidently. Studies have shown that these techniques can even help manage conditions like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). How can I use what I learn? Singing is not just an enjoyable activity; it is a lifelong skill with lasting benefits. The breathing techniques you will master can be a powerful tool in managing stress and anxiety, helping you stay calm and centred in challenging situations. Moreover, the connections you form with fellow group members can lead to lasting friendships, providing social support that is vital for mental health. The repertoire of uplifting songs we sing also serve as a go-to resource for boosting your mood, improving focus, and simply enjoying the moment. Beyond the workshops, these skills can enhance your quality of life, providing joy, mental clarity, and emotional resilience.
