Student Story

I was first introduced to Stepping Stones by a social prescriber.   At first, I was terrified and full of anxiety, but I quickly realised there was nothing to worry about. The place is calm, welcoming, and full of friendly, supportive people – even if you’ve never met them before.

I’d just moved to Bracknell and this was the first time I started meeting others in the area and forming connections. I’ve taken part in several courses and workshops, and each one has helped me in my recovery journey. The facilitators really know their stuff – many have lived experience, which makes their support even more genuine and helpful. Everyone, staff and students, make sure you feel safe, included, and treated equally.

When I started, I struggled with confidence and eye contact. Now, I’m slowly improving in both. Meeting new people doesn’t feel as scary anymore, and I’m even keeping in touch with others I've met here. I used to find it really hard to be around people, but being part of this community is helping me work through that.

The friends I’ve made here, like me, are so grateful to have this kind of support – for some of us, it’s the only one we’ve got. I still have a long way to go, but Stepping Stones has already helped me achieve some goals and keep moving forward. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without it. It’s a big part of my journey, and it means a lot to me.
