Wednesday Wellbeing

Job Coach Speed Dating! Cathy Wilkins (in the Stepping Stones T-shirt), our business development lead, met with several "job coaches" at an event organised by Bracknell Job Centre last week.

The coaches met with several businesses and organisations "speed- dating" style, with five minutes to talk to each service and ask questions. They were very impressed with everything they heard about Stepping Stones and are keen to support and encourage new students. Well done Cathy on a successful "date"!

Not content with speed dating, our Cathy is also cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money for Stepping Stones and Macmillan Cancer Nurses.

Cathy, you rock!

How are your Joyful June's? In the last edition, we sent you the Joyful June calendar from Action for Happiness. How are you getting on with the actions? Tell or show us on our social media pages.

Meet one of our fabulous facilitators!

Sophie Pierce

Sophie is our resident storyteller and word enthusiast! With over ten years spent in creative writing, journalism and marketing roles, Sophie has not yet met a story she didn't like. She thinks words are responsible for so much good in the world - communication, entertainment, expressions of emotion, history, reflection and relationships, to name just a few. She believes that if there is a reason we exist, it's to leave an impression on those around us.Storytelling helps us to leave that legacy, sharing our own narratives with those who have come before us and those who will follow after we are gone. She is passionate about spreading the joy of storytelling with other people. When not at Stepping Stones, Sophie can either be found in her day job as a Content Director at a marketing agency in Wokingham, playing with her toddling daughter or treading the boards at Wokingham Theatre. At Stepping Stones Recovery College Sophie facilitates the Creative Writing & Storytelling course, which has proved very popular over the last two terms. Her next course will start in the Autumn term, so watch this space for term dates so you can book and secure your place.

Do you like a good read? We love a great self-help book here at Stepping Stones, as it's a brilliant way of continuing your learning and recovery journey, when you are at home. If you have not already read it, we recommend "Happy" by Fearne Cotton. We've left a little taster below - if you like what you see, check out the whole book.

"Happiness you gorgeous ray of sunshine. I love it when you spring up out of nowhere and take me by surprise and how you can make clouds part and corners of mouths lift..."

Find positivity - Make the choice to see the positive rather than the negative in situations

Take charge of your mind - You're in control of it. Don't let your habits or fears run the show.

There's room for it all - Don't panic if you feel unhappy. Let it come and go. Remember: this too shall pass.

Face-to-face wellbeing session with

Bracknell Forest Community Network. See the below message for details.

We have the pleasure to announce our first Face to Face Wellbeing Session since the Pandemic. We will be doing a mixture of face-to-face and online Wellbeing sessions to suit everybody’s needs. Our first session will be about ‘Coping Strategies’ with Jo from Bucks Mind.

Many of us may have experienced increased stress and anxiety over the last couple of years as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. We've had a lot to cope with and how we cope plays a big role in our mental wellbeing. So this session is about having some time out for yourself - to pause and reflect on your personal coping strategies, how these might have been effected by the pandemic and what has helped you to cope.

Date – Wednesday 22nd June 2022 Time – 1:45pm to 4:15pm Venue – Bracknell Open Learning Centre Rectory Lane, Bracknell, Berkshire, RG12 7GR

Teas and coffees will be provided. A facilitator will be there to support you as well as Jo.

If you would like to attend this session, please let us know by replying to Kara.Harris@bracknell-forest.gov.uk

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!
